Parenting

I am working on writing a book in my head. (Aren't we all.) It's about parenting/mothering, and I need some ideas:

In what way is mothering (or parenting) like a spiritual discipline?

consistency is key to parenting, just like any spiritual discipline takes years of repeated effort. Also, you are shaping a life, nurturing a soul, setting up a lifetime of desires, abilities and tendencies.

i think i am too busy being spiritual to reply....as far as parenting is spiritual. i think the biggest thing is that it puts you in close contact with The Divine. the slippery cry of a newborn, the two-year-old's awe at a firefly, the miraculous ability to stay upright and even smile on 45 minutes of sleep twice a night, the Divine moment of quiet when all the kids are suddenly sleeping at the same moment---before the cable salesman pounds on the door.
