Out of work

I should have seen it coming. I knew that the company wasn't doing too well, and so on Friday when they said lunch was provided I should have realized there was some bad news, instead of just thinking "Cool, free food!" Then at lunch people kept making jokes about this being our last meal, and still I didn't catch on. Finally the secretary gave us our paychecks and told us she had some bad news. We had been paid through 5:pm, and some of us had letters of recommendation. It was a "temporary layoff" but she recommended that we find other jobs. What happened was a logistical train wreck between our overhead costs and lack of incoming orders.
Of all my coworkers, I probably have the brightest future. I am now free (and motivated) to move to a better and more fitting job. I can easily relocate, am young, and don't have emphysema and lung cancer to look forward to. The world is open to me!

Where do I go from here? I have been looking into jobs all over the continent. The continent of Antartica that is. I sent in my resume to them and am waiting for a reply. I am also looking in more conventional places on the globe, like Iowa.
I do not plan to stay in this area. It is not the best part of the country for advancing monkeys
